U.S. Senate candidate Alvin Greene made his first public appearance with a seven-minute speech at the NAACP’s local chapter meeting held at Manning Junior High School Sunday.

U.S. Senate candidate Alvin Greene made his first public appearance with a seven-minute speech at the NAACP’s local chapter meeting held at Manning Junior High School Sunday.

In front of a crowd of about 550 and dozens of media, from local to international, Greene talked about the issues that are the basis of his campaign-jobs, education, and justice. He added in humor to all the media attention.

Once again, Abigail has lent money to her son – this time to get his car fixed.  Her son is 28 years old and still living in the family home, where he has crashed since high school.  Abigail feels guilty giving him money, but what can she do?  He needs to get his car fixed.  He needs to look for work.

This is a common scenario in today’s world.  It’s also an example of a codependent relationship.

Manning High School has been a dominant FFA force for at least two decades. The school’s organization has the largest chapter in the state and has won gold, silver and bronze, while representing South Carolina numerous times on a national level. The FFA is a dynamic youth organization that is a part of agricultural education programs at middle and high schools throughout the US.

Clarendon Health System’s hospital expansion project is well underway, even though it may not be that visible from above ground. Everything is on schedule, according to Bryant Brown, vice president of GMK Associates, Inc., the design build contractor for the project.

Every 11 minutes someone is added to the medical organ transplant waiting list.  More than 102,000 people, enough to populate a small city, are waiting for an organ donation in the United States.  Eight hundred South Carolinians are awaiting an organ transplant with approximately 90 percent needing a kidney.

Unfortunately, thousands of people never get a second chance at life by receiving a suitable donor organ.  Being an organ donor is one of the most generous decisions that anyone could ever make and it is a life saver.

Don’t be surprised if you don’t have to wait an hour to use a computer the next time you visit the Harvin Clarendon County Library.

Six computers were recently loaned to the Harvin Clarendon County Library as an access point to help job seekers with CareerOneStop basic services and to relieve some of the traffic on the machines. This makes the total computers now 18, according to Library Director Marilyn Tsirigotis.

With the summer heat bearing down these days, and I do mean bearing and burning down, it can be difficult to spend a whole day on the lake fishing without risking heat issues. While several species of fish continue to be caught in good numbers and sizes, a lot of the guides and hardcore anglers have resorted to fishing at night.

City Administrator Rebecca Rhodes said that people were used to paying their bills without actually having to go into City Hall.

“We don’t have a drive-thru like we did with our old location, but this is an even easier way to make payments,” she said.

The question of whether the Town of Paxville will receive municipal water is now up to its residents. In April the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development Department awarded a $3.92 million grant to the City of Manning to create a water line to Paxville. The project which includes a total of more than 13 miles of water line will stretch from I-95 down Hwy. 261, looping around Home Branch, and continuing to the western edge of Paxville.

Born April 3, 1931, in Steubenville, Ohio, he was a son of the late Jack and Mamie Moran Billham. He was a retired U.S. Air Force technical sergeant avionics specialist; a retired machinist for Cummings Diesel in Charleston; and a member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church in Charleston.

I am never, ever, EVER bored. It is just not possible in my world. I am occasionally exhausted, but never bored. Currently my brain is whirring in a million different directions, so that means it is time to unload. Thank you for indulging me.

I eat the same breakfast every day and it is purchased between my house on Manning’s Sunset Drive and our temporary quarters on Boyce Street. You know the joint.

The Clarendon County Development Board is the extension of the Clarendon County Council, which has been designated to devote its full time efforts to economic development. John Truluck, our Economic Development Director and his staff have a volunteer advisory board that is appointed by the Clarendon County Council, both to assist him and to make recommendations to the County Council. Each council district is represented on the advisory board.
