Most people don’t have buildings named after them. Carter H. Jones is an exception. A whole fire station bears his letters.

On June 12, Jones became the first recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award, South Carolina State Firefighters’ Association’s highest honor.

When I was a little kid and tried the time-honored whine of “I don’t wanna go to school,” my mother quickly explained that if I did not go to school, then she and my daddy would be taken to jail. I was told that it was “the law” that all children attend school and irresponsible parents would be incarcerated for their crime.

No he didn’t just get off work without time to change. And no he wasn’t going for the Coolest Outfit award either (although he did receive it with honors).

He simply just wanted to make this race fun. Anthony had a half-Ironman distance triathlon the following weekend, and being a competitive athlete, he needed a constant reminder to take it easy on the festival race date.

The largemouth bass, catfish, and crappie have been the headliners for sure. But add to that some excellent shellcracker fishing and some decent fishing for bream and there’s a true smorgasbord of fishing opportunities right now.

With the more stable weather, there’s additional good news for those who enjoy fishing the rivers.

Dissociation is a mental process that causes a lack of connection in a person’s thoughts, memory and sense of identity. Most of us have experienced mild dissociation either when driving down a familiar stretch of road and realize that you do not remember that last several miles, getting “lost” in a good book or daydreaming.
