She was educated in Clarendon County Schools, and was a life member of Greater St. Phillip RMUE Church, Pinewood.

She was preceded in death by 10 siblings and three children, Pernell Briggs Sr., Ruby M. Osbie and James L. Briggs Sr.

Born March 24, 1927, in Marion, she was a daughter of the late Rembert Collins and the late Eva Mae Collins Collins. She was a retired inspector for Westinghouse Nuclear Fuel Division in Columbia. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Columbia, and attended Good Shepherd Baptist Church and New Covenant Presbyterian Church, both of Manning.

Jones grew up chasing fire trucks. Like many young boys he wanted to ride the big truck and put out those large fires. Unlike many, he actually followed that road and dug that path smooth, becoming one of the most successful and well-respected firefighters in the state.

Most people don’t have buildings named after them. Carter H. Jones is an exception. A whole fire station bears his letters.

On June 12, Jones became the first recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award, South Carolina State Firefighters’ Association’s highest honor.

Born April 11, 1959, in Manning, she was a daughter of the late Mason and Julia Johnson Calhoun. Catherine was a graduate of Manning High School and F.E. Dubose Career Center. She was a member of St. John Baptist Church, Bloomville community. She was employed with the Clarendon County Disabilities & Special Needs Board for a number of years, until a decline in health.

Born April 15, 1933, in Manning, he was a son of the late Frances and Lila Hilton Starks. He received his formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County. In his life, he sought the need for a personal Savior and joined Mt. Roney Baptist Church and later he affiliated himself with Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. He was a contractor for New Hanover Memorial Hospital, Wilmington, N.C.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Gary Dean Reinhart, 74, died Friday, July 2, 2010, at home.

He was born in Neosho, Missouri and had resided in Newport News for the past thirty-two years.

    Mr. Reinhart retired from Allied Signal as Group Director of Material in 1987 after 30 years of service. He later retired from Flight International as Vice President of Administration in 1998 with 10 years of service.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean War.

Mack Henry Manning, 64, died Saturday, June 26, 2010, at his residence in New York, N.Y.

Born Jan. 3, 1946, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Mack Arthur and Lillie Mae Manning. Mack Henry Manning, fondly known as “Peter,” was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County. At an early age, he moved to Bronx, N.Y., with his aunt, Mary Lou Manning. He was employed at Carry Case Manufacturers for more than 30 years, until his health failed him.

Born on Nov. 29, 1950, in the River Road section of Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Simel Adams and Neomi Richardson Adams.

He was a lifelong member of Antioch UME Church in Rimini. He attended Manchester High School in Pinewood and after completion of high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army.
