The Manning High varsity baseball team defeated Crestwood on March 12 in Sumter, 14-2.

 

Clarendon Hall defeated Coastal Christian Academy on March 7 in Summerton, 7-5.

 

George Turbeville’s fastball and the ability to throw with both hands were legendary in the Town of Turbeville. Turbeville was a Major League Baseball pitcher who played for the Philadelphia Athletics (A’s) from 1935 to 1937.

 

George was born in 1914 to James Martin Turbeville Sr., a farmer and an auto dealer, and Annie Lamb Evans Turbeville. He was one of 15 siblings, seven boys and eight girls.Of the 15, only four are living, Bill Turbeville, Henry Turbeville, Patsy Turbeville Cox and Judge (Ret.) Wright Turbeville.

 

Laurence Manning Academy defeated Providence Home School in seven innings on March 4 in Manning, 4-1.
