Largemouth bass fishing action continues to be very good on both lakes Marion and Moultrie. However, the same can be said of catfishing as well as for catching plenty of big bream and shellcracker. In addition, some crappie action has begun to perk up along the deeper drops around the brush piles and other woody cover.

When the water conditions have allowed, we’ve had a really good bass fishing spring. But right now, the bass fishing is excellent in shallow water with a lot of largemouth coming from both lakes, with most of the action coming from shallow water, from seven feet deep and less.

Better go bass fishing in a hurry, no telling what this latest slug of tropical storm rain will do to the water. But as for now, the water has cleared up from the many rains we’ve already endured this spring and is, or was, in prime condition. The water is warming and the largemouth bass are biting like crazy.

First of all, it’s time to stop fishing for stripers. It’s a shame in one sense, because the water conditions this spring had them still very much in a biting mode in certain areas of both lakes Marion and Moultrie. But for now, the season is closed and it is closed to protect the resource and I totally understand that.

Fighting mosquitoes is a form of hand-to-hand combat; maybe it’s really more like hand-to-slapping your own face-type of action or reaction. Regardless, we need to find a way to stop beating ourselves up because of a tiny bug.

There’s a lot of really good things about fishing lakes Marion and Moultrie, but when conditions get tough and the water rises up and down, gets muddy and clear and then repeats itself through another cycle of up and down, there is one species that seems to remain available to fishermen most of the time, and that’s catfish.

Sometimes it’s a really good thing to stink up the place … especially if you’re looking for great, fast-paced catfish action.

Good reports of catches of bream, bass, catfish, stripers and crappie all continue to be received from both lakes Marion and Moultrie but a common thread seems to be the same on all species. Anglers need to be able to move around a good bit to stay on top of ever-changing water conditions.

Fishing along the South Carolina coast is excellent right now. There are a number of fish species being caught in good numbers and the redfish (or spottail bass) is certainly one of them. There are a number of different ways to catch these fish right now.
