Manning High School Monarchs defeated the Lake City High School Panthers on Sept. 7 in Lake City, 41-13.

 

Scott’s Branch High School Eagles lost a close game to Burke High School Bulldogs on Sept. 7 at Burke, 18-14.

 

When two teams with 3-0 records play, someone will come away with a loss. Tonight’s showdown between Columbia powerhouse Hammond Skyhawks and the Laurence Manning Academy Swampcats gave all who attended some great football.

 

Manning High School Monarchs defeated the Marion High School Swamp Foxes on Aug. 31 at home, 41-14.

 

This week’s Citizen Game of the Week saw the Clarendon Hall Saints fall prey to the  King Academy Knights 36-12 at home. While the Saints now fall to an 0-2 record, the Knights moved to 3-0 on the year.

 

East Clarendon High School Wolverines lost to the Johnsonville High School Flashes on Aug. 31 in Johnsonville, 56-22.

 

Laurence Manning Academy Swampcats defeated Hilton Head Prep Dolphins on Aug. 31 in Hilton Head, 33-13.

 

Billy Carlisle is Clarendon Hall’s new football coach for the 2012 season.

 

Carlisle is a 1989 graduate of Clarendon Hall, where he was on two back-to-back state championship football teams.

 

The LMA B-Team started off the 2012 season with a 30-0 victory over rival Wilson Hall in Sumter on Thursday, Aug. 23. Brewer Brunson took the opening kickoff 64 yards for LMA’s first score. Noah Fenters added the 2-point conversion to take a 8-0 lead.

 

East Clarendon High School Wolverines lost their first game of the season, 34-0 on Aug. 24 to the Latta High School Vikings at home.

 

Laurence Manning Academy Swampcats defeated the Cardinal Newman Cardinals, 31-7 on Aug. 24 in Columbia.

 

The 3A powerhouse Manning High Monarchs struck hard, fast and furious from the outset to defeat cross-town rivals, 1A Scotts Branch High Eagles. The final score, MHS 61-SBHS 0, does not reflect the true scope of this pigskin match-up.

 

Clarendon Hall Saints lost to the St. John’s Cavaliers on Aug. 24 in Monck’s Corner, 48-6.

 

Allendale-Fairfax Tigers were less than kind to the Scott’s Branch High School Eagles, defeating the Eagles on Aug. 17 in Fairfax, 56-0.

 

Manning High School lost by just one point in their first game of the season, Aug. 18, to Timberland High School at home, 23-22.

 

Laurence Manning Academy varsity football Swampcats started their season with a bang defeating Florence Christian in Florence, 33-13.

 

The Florence Christian Eagles got on the scoreboard early in the first quarter leading 6-0. LMA Swampcats responded midway in the first quarter to take the lead, 7-6. The Swampcats never looked back, scoring three touchdowns in the second.

 

Clinton Bethune has been named interim head coach of the Scott’s Branch High School Varsity Football team.

 

Mars Hill College is not only getting a good athlete but a good student, according to East Clarendon Head Football Coach Dwayne Howell.

 

The BCS Championship game, the Capitol One Bowl, the Outback Bowl and the Discover Orange Bowl all had former Manning High School players as part of the action with one MHS alumni walking off the field a National Champion.

 

The Monarchs lost to Wildcats in Dillon Friday night, 52-6.

 

The loss drops Manning to 6-6 to end the season while Dillon advances to the third round of Class A Division II undefeated.

 

Dillon got on the board first and never looked back, scoring in all four quarters.

 

The football season ended for two of the five Clarendon County teams following the first round of playoff action.

 

Entering into round two are Clarendon Hall, Manning and Scott’s Branch. All will be on the road.

 

Clarendon Hall made it one game closer to their ultimate goal with a 35-16 win over Laurens Academy Friday night in Summerton.

 

After a very successful 9-1 season, Coach Casey Connors is very proud of his Saints and their performances during the season. 

 

“We’re in it to win it,” is what the Clarendon Hall Saints’ banner read.  But in order to win it all, they had to first beat the Wardlaw Academy Patriots in Johnston.  The Saints lost to Wardlaw 52-18.
