Rev. Phares Elwood “Pec” Chatham III, 65, husband of Linda Evans Chatham, died Saturday, October 3, 2015, at his home.

Born January 29, 1950, in Sumter, he was the son of the late P.E. Chatham Jr. and the late Katherine Bryan Chatham. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Claremont Masonic Lodge #64, and the National Rifle Association. Pec enjoyed serving as a bi-vocational pastor at Faith Baptist Church in Eastover and for 18 years at Second Baptist Church in Manning. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed tending his vegetable garden.

She was born April 16, 1917, in Manning, South Carolina, and a daughter of the late John Whack and Lula Mae Witherspoon Whack.

Born September 12, 1942, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Carl Stewart Sr. and the late Elizabeth Colson Stewart.

She is survived by her husband of Paxville; and a brother, Carl Stewart Jr. of Tennessee.

Memorial services will be held at a later date in Tennessee.

He was a 1958 graduate of East Clarendon High School, a farmer, and a member of Barrineau Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he served as the former Sunday school teacher of the Young Men’s Class, Deacon, and assistant Sunday school Superintendent of the church.
