In the world of Rotary International, leadership roles are perhaps the highest honors that members strive for. The century-old service organization has a very defined leadership structure, from local clubs, to districts, to international.

 

Third Circuit Court Assistant Solicitor Amy Land will take over the retiring Judge Bobbie Reaves’ position at the county’s Drug Court starting on Aug. 1.

South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a possible hit-and-run involving a bicycle and a pickup truck that occurred on Plowden Mill Road north of Manning, around 4 p.m.

 

UPDATE 7/22/11: The Clarendon County Board of Education met on Thursday to determine whether newly elected Mayor of Manning, Julia Nelson, is a dual office holder, in that she currently holds a seat on the Clarendon School District 2 Board of Trustees.

 

 

A 63-year-old Manning man died last week alone in a wooded area off South Mill Street.

 

As temperatures topped 100 degrees on July 13, a friend went into the wooded area to check on him. He found his buddy’s body lying in a sleeping bag inside his makeshift home.

 

Owners of Goat Island Restaurant and Lounge have sued Clarendon County and are awaiting a hearing that will determine whether the county’s noise ordinance is unconstitutional, after a local judge issued a temporary injunction on June 29 that prevents county deputies from enforcing the ordinance at the business.
