The last name of Jolly has put a few smiles on the faces of those he introduces himself too.

“It’s definitely an icebreaker,” the Rev. Robert Jolly, new pastor at Sardinia Presbyterian Church, said Jan. 20 with a smile.

Last year was a busy year for the Jollys.

 

Church Briefs

Emmanuel Baptist Church will host several events for Christian homeschool families. On 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 16, the Classical Conversations Homeschool Community will host an informational meeting. Classical Conversations is a tutoring service that will provide programs for K4-6th grade each Thursday beginning Fall 2012 at EBC. For more information, contact the church office at 435-8252.

 

Fourth Crossroad Baptist Church, located at 1612 Crossroad Church Rd. in Manning, will hold their Musician Appreciation Services at 6 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 14. Many groups and choirs are invited.

 

Effective Jan. 4, 2012, Laura Nesbitt has been approved as a new Director for Jordan Crossroads Ministry Center-Haven of Rest (JCMC-Haven of Rest). She can be reached at 803-406-1902. Ann Driggers will serve as the Executive Director and will work hand in hand with Laura and other board members (Joette Wielicki, Cindy Bradham and Cheryl Coggins). The board thanks the Clarendon community for continuing to support their ongoing success as a women’s center for domestic violence crises, assisting women who are seeking a transitional house away from their aggressors. The JCMC website will remain jordancrossroadsministrycenter.com, where board members and volunteers are available for contact numbers and general information.

 

Pinewood Baptist Church will host the group Promise in concert at 6:30 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 29. Great Commission Ministry West, located at 1631 Trinity Church Rd. in Alcolu, will hold a Leadership Development Day, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 25. Pastors, leaders, department heads, aspiring leaders and leaders of organizations and ministries outside the church, are invited to a powerful day of teaching and training. Entire staffs are welcome! A light brunch will be served. Childcare is not available and the meetings are no appropriate for children. While there is no charge for admission, a love offering will be taken during the meeting.

 

Green Hill Missionary Baptist Church presents its Annual Black History Celebration, at 11 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 19. The Honorable Julia Nelson, mayor of the City of Manning will be the guest speaker. Please feel free to wear African prints, African colors (red, black and green) or animal prints.

JCMC – Haven of Rest will hold a “paper drive,” Feb. 15-April 15, for the Domestic Violence Women’s Shelter in Clarendon County. Paper products such as paper plates, cups, napkins, paper towels and toilet paper are requested! Monetary donations are appreciated! Drop off donations at Quality Printers, 4 W. Keitt St., Manning, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. Checks should be made payable to JCMC-Haven of Rest.

 

Life Line Connection is a faith-based, multi-denominational community outreach program seeking to provide assistance in battling life-controlling problems such as substance abuse, destructive behaviors and unhealthy relationships. The group meets at 7:30 p.m. on Monday and Friday evenings at the Clarendon Christian Learning Center, located at 115 N. Boundary Street in Manning. Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, located on Raccoon Road in Manning, will hold their Annual Black History Program at 6:30 p.m., Feb. 18, and will present the play, “Freedom Train,” directed by Reverend Effie Hilton. Dress for this occasion is “Old Time,” brogan shoes, coverall pants, cut off jeans, flannel shirts, head ties and straw hats. There will be a meal of  “soul food,” for a donation of $8.

 

Manning First Assembly of God will hold a “Frankfurter Feast” at 5:30 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 26. All children and their families are welcome for hot dogs, chips and soda. There is no cost. Immediately following, at 6 p.m., the church will present “Kids Gone Wild - for Missions!” This is a family event, presented by Nick and Marilyn Krake, children’s missionaries to the South Pacific island nation of Palau. There will also be gift card door prizes drawn from among kids present!
