  • Look out Texas, here comes Turbeville! Those words or some very similar are probably on the lips of the Turbeville Dixie Darlings softball team, coaches and proud parents as the newly crowned state champions prepare to visit the Lone Star state later this month.

  • Entering the final week of the regular season in American Legion baseball, Post 68 controlled its own destiny. With Cheraw Post 23 hot on their heels for the fourth and final play-off spot in League III, the mission was simple - win and advance, or lose and pack up the gear.

  • Entering the fourth week of the regular season of American Legion baseball, Manning-Santee found itself with a not-so-sparkling 4-8 record. Sumter had a lock on first place in the region while Hartsville and Camden were battling for second and third place. Post 68 or Cheraw Post 23 looked to have the only realistic shots at landing the fourth spot in the post-season picture.

  • Post 68 saw its overall record drop to 3-7 after a 14-6 loss to Cheraw Post 23 Tuesday night at Monarch Field. The visitors from the upstate brought a potent offense to town as all nine starters registered at least one base hit, nineteen overall as a team.

  • It took three tries, but Sumter and Manning-Santee finally completed their first encounter after two rain-outs pushed the scheduled season opener all the way to Saturday. The P-15’s showed why they’re the favorites to take the region again as they hammered out a 15-5 victory.

  • After having its season opener against Sumter rained out on Monday, Manning-Santee got its 2010 American Legion baseball campaign off to a good start with a 7-2 win over Dalzell, Tuesday night at Monarch field.

  • Florence – Sometimes it’s a good thing to step away from the friendly confines of home. Such was the case for LMA as the Swampcats edged Florence Christian 5-4 last Friday evening at FC’s field.

  • Walterboro– LMA’s softball squad flexed its collective muscle Friday evening as the Lady Cats demolished St. John’s Christian 14-2. The contest was a first round match-up in the Colleton Prep Tournament. Saturday night, the Cats tangled with Jefferson Davis Academy.

  • After dropping its first three regular season contests, the Monarchs’ varsity baseball team put one in the win column Friday night as MHS tamed old rival Kingstree 12-2 at the Monarchs’ home field.

  • As the Monarchs’ baseball team was having its way with the Kingstree Jaguars, the Lady Monarchs’ softball team was doing the same with the Lady Jaguars.
