East Clarendon defeated Hannah Pamplico Friday night in Turbeville, 34-21.
The win was bittersweet. The Wolverines had three players leave the game with injuries. Both of East Clarendon’s running backs were injured early, one with a concussion and the other one with an ankle injury. An offensive tackle left the game with a knee injury.
“I know the kid with the concussion probably won’t be back for next week’s game and I’m not sure about the others,” said ECHS Head Football Coach Dwayne Howell. “Our kids played well on both sides of the ball.”
Howell said the game went back and forth in the first half with the Wolverines going into the locker room at half time with an eight point lead.
“I’m happy to get away with a win tonight,” Howell said with a laugh. “We prepared for one type of offense and they came in here with a totally different set. It was a good win tonight.”
Howell said he hopes the momentum from Friday night’s win would carry over into the playoffs that start Nov. 4.
“We’ve been in a drought this year,” Howell said. “It’s good to see the kids winning again.”
ECHS finishes the regular A Region VII season at 6-4, 4 and 1 in the conference.
Going into the first round of playoffs, the Wolverines are in second place behind Lamar.
Opponent, location and time of East Clarendon’s first round playoff game will be announced later.
