Video cams foil Manning burglar

Micheal MosesManning Police have used video cameras to great success in making arrests in two local burglaries.

On Aug. 17, Manning Police officers were dispatched to the MaxWay store on North Brooks Street in reference to a break-in. Upon arrival, a store employee found that a rock had been thrown through the front glass door.

In-store surveillance film showed an unknown black male, approximately 5’5”, weighing between 220 and 250 pounds, approaching the front door at approximately 12:20 a.m. and throwing a rock through the front door and then running away in a northwesterly direction.

About five minutes later, the same suspect entered the store, picked up a 32” flat screen television and exited the store, going in the same direction. The video tape was taken by the police officers as evidence.

On Aug. 20, at about 3 a.m., Manning Police officers were dispatched to the Family Dollar store on Sunset Drive in reference to a burglar alarm.

Upon arrival, officers noted that the front door was broken. Store authorities were unable to say whether or not anything had been taken.

However, the Family Dollar’s in-store video identified a male entering the store.

Micheal Channing Moses, 36, of Manning, was located several hours later at the pay phone by McDonald’s and identified as wearing the same clothes as the suspect in the Family Dollar break-in.

He was arrested and charged with both the MaxWay and Family Dollar break-ins.

He has been charged with two counts of burglary/breaking and entering. If convicted he could be sentenced to a maximum of 15 years for each count.

Manning Police are still seeking a connection to two other burglaries on Aug. 20.

At approximately 3:45 a.m. officers were dispatched to the Manning IGA when a newspaper delivery person saw broken glass at the storefront and what they believed to be a person walking in the store. The “person” turned out to be a video playing on one of the in-store monitors. Police believe that no one was able to make entry into the store as the bottom half of the broken window was still intact.

Also on Aug. 20, Manning Police were dispatched to Regal Auto Sales on Sunset Drive, when an employee arrived at work to find the front door broken. Officers were able to determine that someone had attempted to make entry into the business’ soft drink machine.

Anyone with details about any of these crimes should contact Investigator Eric Rosdail at the Manning Police Department, 435-8859.
