Vernon Vaclav Ermis, 80, husband of Kate Elliott “Kitty” Ermis, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital in Manning.
Born Feb. 24, 1932, in Buckholts, Texas, he was the son of the late Vancel Aloise and Theresa Cabron Ermis. He was a retired United States Air Force veteran, former oil rigger off the coast of Louisiana, helped construct and worked as a greens keeper for Foxboro Golf Course in Summerton, was a greens keeper for Santee National Golf Course in Santee, and attended Summerton Presbyterian Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife of Summerton are three daughters, Eugenie Ermis of Summerton, Cynthia Ermis of West Columbia and Patricia Bonham and her husband Jeff of Franklin, Tenn.; a sister, Loretta Botkin of Brazorio, Texas; a brother, Donald David Ermis of Corpus Christi, Texas; and three grandchildren, Morgan, Teague and Emma Bonham.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at Summerton Evergreen Cemetery, with the Reverend Garland Hart officiating.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-noon at Summerton Presbyterian Church.
