Having won the state title two weeks ago in Florence, the Turbeville Debs All-Star softball Team headed south Thursday to represent South Carolina in the Dixie Debs World Series in Alexandria, La.
The ladies, coaches and family members spent the night in Mississippi Thursday before arriving Friday at Johnny Downs Recreation Complex for the Series opening ceremonies.
The Debs hit the diamond Saturday morning and soundly defeated the Georgia All-Stars, 11-1.
At noon, Sunday, the Debs took on Florida and walked away with a nail-biter, 2-1.
The news out of the Bayou country wasn’t so good Sunday night when the Dixie Debs played the home team Alexandria Debs in a close one. Alexandria gave the Dixie Debs their first defeat, 3-2.
As of Monday afternoon, Coach Ike Ard said six teams remain in the World Series. Two teams are undefeated while four teams have one loss each.
