The group portrait of the Summerton Town Council will have to be re-shot following the April 6 municipal election.
Four candidates stood for the three seats up for election.
On the ballot were incumbents Mayor Pro Tem Ken Wells, Councilman DuValle Elliott and Councilman Henry Lawson.
Joining them was political newcomer Terrance Tindal.
When the 224 electronically cast ballots were tallied, Elliott had received 131 votes, Wells garnered 129 votes, Tindal earned 119 and Lawson came in with 88 votes.
About 20 minutes after the polls closed, the absentee ballots were delivered to the Summerton Town Council. A total of 15 ballots had been cast by absentees.
Elliott and Tindal each received three votes; Wells, two, and Lawson, 15.
However, the absentee votes were not enough to change the outcome, with final vote tallies being Elliott, 134; Wells, 131; Tindal, 122; and Lawson 103.
Tindal said he was very pleased to have been elected.
“I think I walked every street of the town on election day,” he said, pointing to his dusty boots. “I am now ready to get to work moving Summerton forward.”
Mayor Jay Bruner said that he was looking forward to working with Tindal.
“I certainly want to salute Henry Lawson for his 16 years of devotion to our town,” Bruner said. “I am excited for the potential for our town and the addition of Mr. Tindal.”
