Sybil Carolyn Hardy Floyd, 84, widow of Samuel Bethea Floyd, died peacefully at her home, surrounded by her children, on the morning of Friday, Sept. 28, 2012.
Born June 24, 1928, in New Zion, she was a daughter of the late Hugh Dilworth Hardy and Maggie Coker Hardy.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker working faithfully and tirelessly as a helpmate beside her beloved “Thea” on their family farm. An honor graduate of Salem High School, Class of 1945, “Mrs. Sybil” was a former valued employee of Skyline Mfg. in Turbeville. She was a member of Pine Dale Pentecostal Holiness Church and The Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by daughters Joyce F. Johnson (John), Janice F. Lavender (Carl), Cheryl F. Hodge (Willie), Deb H. Osborne (Skip) all of New Zion, and Gina F. Dantzler (Bryan) of Santee; sons Ronald D. Floyd (Anna) and Thomas L. Floyd (Coco) both of New Zion; a sister Mary H. Thomas of Sumter; grandchildren, Jay (Jennifer), Clarke (Austin), Hunter (Dee) and Graham (Heather) Johnson; Edward (Keri) Lavender; Kip (Christy), Brantley, and Chase Hodge; Whitney, Jordan, Taylor and Tori Osborne; Dyson Dantzler; Amanda F. (Joe) McConnell and Abbie F. (Allen) Kirby; and Nancy Caroline Floyd. Great-grandchildren, Ashley McElveen, Emilee and Eli Johnson; Britton and Stella Johnson; Andrew Johnson; Carlisle Lavender; Jackson Hodge; Olivia and Barnes McConnell. She is preceded in death by brothers Hugh D. “Tootsie”, Mack, Julian, Coker, Billy, and Bobby Hardy; sisters Ruby H. Coker and Thelma H. Baird; one infant granddaughter, Maggie Lavender.
Mrs. Sybil was lovingly cared for by Beebe Coker and Christina Toney with Amedisys Hospice as well as caregivers Debra Hannah and Alta Faye Welch.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, at Pine Dale PH Church with burial in New Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
