Sue Sutherland Lutz died suddenly Tuesday night April 27, 2010. She was born in Charleston, on Feb. 4, 1950, to Richard and Marianne Blossom and was raised in Florence.
She is survived by her husband Hallett Lutz of Manning, two sisters, Bonni Johnson (Charles) Morrell of Sturgeon Bay, Wis. and Mary Bishop (Shawn) Drake of Columbia, S.C. She was a special aunt to her niece, Anna Drake, and her nephews, Walker Johnson of Charlotte and Jess Bishop of Columbia. She was a stepmother for Hallett’s three children, Chad (Christie) Lutz of Sumter, Justin Lutz also of Sumter and Maggie Lutz of Greenville. She was affectionally known as Su Su to Hallet’s grandchildren Travis and Zach. Her best friend of 25 years is Sharon Raffaelle of James Island, S.C.
For 28 years, Sue taught kindergarten, first grade, and the visually impaired, and held school psychologist positions in the South Carolina public school system. As a former director of special education and again in private practice Sue worked with autism assessments and supervised applied behavioral analysis programs. Sue was a member of the South Carolina Association of School Psychologists, the National Association of School Psychologists and the American Psychological Association.
She was currently devoting her time to working with parents and children in creative ways to help them adjust to developmental changes and behavioral issues.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, May 1, 2010, in The Presbyterian Church at Manning, with the Rev. Dr. William J. Holmes officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Dee Norton Lowcountry Childrens’ Center.
Stephens Funeral Home and Crematory of Manning was in charge of the arrangements.
