Shirley Lemon Conyers

Shirley Lemon Conyers, 56, wife of Leroy Conyers, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at MUSC Hospital, Charleston. She was born June 21, 1956, in Manning, a daughter of the late Ben Lemon and Carrie Lee Williams Lemon Briggs and the stepdaughter of Oscar Briggs.

She received her formal education in the Clarendon county public school system and later obtained her diploma by attending school in the evenings.

She was raised in a loving Christian home, and at an early age she accepted Christ as her savior and joined Zion hill Baptist Church. She faithfully served as a member of the Pastor’s Aid, Chancellor choir, attire committee, hospitality committee, usher, and in any other capacity as needed.

Sarah was joined in Holy matrimony to Leroy Conyers on Aug. 4, 1973. This union was blessed with one child, Kelvin L. Conyers.

‘Shirley’, as she was affectionately called, was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was fun, outgoing, and being in the company of family and friends was her favorite pastime. She carried a spirit of unity that was displayed in planning and hosting family reunions and annual gatherings. Those close to her knew that she was a woman of order and preparation, and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need by transporting them to appointments and running errands.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories, her husband Leroy Conyers of the home; one devoted son Deacon Kelvin (Elder Christie) Conyers of Hinesville, Ga.; a stepfather, Oscar Briggs, Manning; three grandchildren, Kelvin K. Conyers, Jada Conyers, and Jordyn Conyers; one sister, Laura Daney of Baltimore, Md.; two brothers, James Lee Lemon and Lester Lemon Sr. of Manning; a niece and three nephews reared as siblings in the home, Carrie Ann Lemon and Anthony (Stella) Lemon of Baltimore, Md., Marion (Diane) Lemon of Columbia, and Michael (Juliette) Bradley of Chesapeake, Va.; one additional brother-in-law, Robert Tomlin, Baltimore, Md.; two additional sisters-in-law, Deloris Lemon, Manning, and Alma Lemon, Baltimore, Md.; and a host of nieces , nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family is receiving friends at the home, 704 W. Huggins Street, Manning.
