Lamar - 47/Scott’s Branch - 46

Scott’s Branch lost a tight conference game to Lamar on Jan. 17 at home, 47-46.

The Eagles and Silver Foxes were all tied at 13 after one quarter. Going into the half, the Eagles had pulled ahead, 29-24. The third quarter was all the Silver Foxes, outscoring the Eagles by nine. Scott’s Branch outscored Lamar in the fourth quarter, 11-6, but it was too little too late.

Traviant Riley scored six points with one rebound and one assist. Trashawn Jones scored four points with six rebounds. Devin Brailsford scored seven points with eight rebounds, two steals and four assists. Bernard McDaniel scored eight points with four rebounds and three steals. Robert Felder had another strong night on the boards with seven points, 12 rebounds, five blocked shots, one steal and one assist. Sam Murry scored three points with one steal. TyQuan Kennedy scored 11 points with three rebounds and one assist. Charlie Wright had one rebound and one assist.

The defeat dropped the Eagles to 5-8 on the season, 0-3 in conference play.

Scott’s Branch - 77/Hannah-Pamplico - 58

Scott’s Branch won their first conference game of the season defeating Hannah-Pamplico on Jan. 20 at home, 77-58.

The Eagles had a strong first quarter, outscoring the Raiders, 21-10. The Raiders cut into the Eagles’ lead by three in the second quarter, but the Eagles went into the locker room at the half leading 37-29. The Eagles increased their lead in the third quarter outscoring the Raiders by 6 points. Scott’s Branch pulled away in the fourth quarter, outscoring Hannah-Pamplico down the stretch, 21-16.

Traviant Riley scored 18 points with two rebounds, one blocked shot, three assists and one steal. Trashawn Jones scored 11 points with four rebounds and one steal. Shakei Green scored five points with three rebounds. Devin Brailsford scored six points with three rebounds. Bernard McDaniel scored seven points with seven rebounds, three assists and four steals. Robert Felder had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Felder also had three blocked shots and four steals. Sam Murry had three rebounds, one assist and one steal. TyQuan Kennedy had five points with four rebounds and one steal. Charlie Wright had one rebound.

The win moved Scott’s Branch to 6-8 on the season, 1-3 in region play.

Lady Eagles - 59/Lady Silver Foxes - 58

It took an extra quarter, but the Lady Eagles squeaked a conference game past the Lady Silver Foxes on Jan. 17 at home, 59-58.

The game was all even at the end of the first quarter.

Going into the locker room at the half, the Lady Eagles were only up by two.

The third quarter ended with the Lady Eagles lead cut in half.

The fourth quarter was tight with the Lady Silver Foxes closing the gap and putting the game into overtime.

The overtime was just as tight as the game, with the Lady Eagles pulling ahead at the end, 59-58.

Lady Eagle Jasmine Murray had a hot hand with a quadruple-double. Murray scored 38 points with 10 rebounds, two blocked shots, ten steals and ten assists. Nyemia Lawson scored four points with three rebounds, four steals and two assists. Tiana James scored four points with seven rebounds. Tytiana Baxter scored one point with one rebound.

The win moved the Lady Eagles to 4-9 on the season, 1-2 in conference play.

Lamar - 49/Scott’s Branch - 35       

Scott’s Branch High School J.V. Boys basketball team won a close game to Lamar on Tuesday, Jan. 17, in their first conference game of the season.

Head Coach Bernard Richburg said that his team made a lot of mistakes in the first half of the game, but really picked it up in the second half.

“We started to recap and play as a team, and therefore were able to shut down their offense,” he said.

Marquis Richburg led the scoring with 21 points. Jamal Ingram had seven points, Corey Leonard had three, Trey-Shawn McKinney had two,  and Jay-Shawn Junious and Shamari Junious each had one.

The JV Eagles will face C.E. Murray at home on Jan. 23, East Clarendon at home on Jan. 27, and will travel to Lamar on Jan. 31.
