Scott’s Branch defeats C.E. Murray 38-7

The Scott’s Branch High School Eagles finally got a break that they were looking for with a 38-7 win over C.E. Murray of Kingstree, on Friday, Oct. 28 at Spann Stadium.

The Eagles started their domination mid in the first quarter, when Leon Mathis scored on three-yard run with 6:05 remaining. Robert Felder got the two-point conversion to make it 8-0 Eagles. Mathis scored again on the buzzer of the first, with a five-yard run and two-point conversion to make it 16-0 at the end of the first. In the second, Felder scored on a 4-yard run with 4:34 left. QB/CB Samuel Murray added the two-point conversion to make it 24-0 at the half.

In the third quarter Mathis scored again with 5:57 left, to put the Eagles up 30-0. With 2:19 in the fourth, Mathis scored yet again on an 18-yard run, and ran in the two-point conversion. The only scoring of the night from C.E. Murray came late in the fourth, with 1:20 remaining. Carlton McKnight scored on a 48-yard run, and the kick was good.

The Eagles had a total of 392 yards, 265 rushing and 127 passing.

Top offensive player of the night was Mathis who ran for 212 yards on 28 carries, and 4 touchdowns. Murray ran for 26 yards, on six carries.

Murray also threw for four completions on four attempts.

Top defensive players of the night were B.J. McDaniel who had six tackles, four assists, and one sack, and Charlie Wright, who had one tackle and two sacks.

The Eagles finish off the season with a 3-7 record, and the win allows them to move onto the single-elimination 1A playoffs. They will face off against Whale Branch in Beaufort on Friday, Nov. 4, at 7:30 p.m.
