S’ton Council: No tax increase

The residents of Summerton will not have a tax increase for the 2012-2013 fiscal year.

Town of Summerton held a second and final reading and a public hearing of their budget on June 26. The total approved budget for this fiscal year is $1,960,210.

The council also approved first reading of an ordinance to limit outdoor debris burning. The proposed ordinance would make it illegal for anyone within the town limits to have outdoor debris burning after 5 p.m.

The council will have second reading on the issue at their next meeting, at 6 p.m. on July 10.

The council also gave permission for Clarendon Hall to have several South Carolina Department of Transportation road signs put up throughout the town honoring the recent state championship victory of the school’s softball team.
