Roy Elliott Shorter

Roy Elliott Shorter, 67, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.

Born June 30, 1945, in Davis Station, he was the son of the late Rufus Nathaniel Shorter and the late Camilla Tennant Shorter McLeod. He was a retired lineman for Sumter Builders.

He is survived by three daughters, Sherry Benjamin, Teresa “Terry” Shorter and Amanda Shorter, all of Manning; two brothers, Billy Shorter (Carolyn) of Sumter and Charles Shorter (Marsha) of Manning; a sister, Joan Smith of Sumter; three grandchildren, Randy Hatfield, Brittany Shorter and Kayla Shorter; and the mother of his children, Mary Virginia Lloyd of Manning.

The family would like to give special thanks to Ollie Mae Snyder.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church with Rev. Ashley Brunson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service in the church fellowship hall and other times at the home of Mildred Braxton, 7 E. South St., Manning.
