Ronald A. Davis

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Retired Master Sgt. Ronald Alexander Davis, 65, of 8013 Andover Creek Drive, entered eternal rest on Sunday, June 27, 2010, at the Dorn VA Medical Center, Columbia.

Born July 12, 1945, at Harlem Hospital, Harlem, N.Y., he was a son of Rebecca Tindal Davis. In his youth, he attended Emmanuel UM Church, Sumter. He received his education in the public schools of Sumter County. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he received several awards and commendations before he retired on July 12, 2005.

He was the owner and operator of a limousine service and a trainer at Fort Jackson Army Base, Columbia. With a love for music, he managed many local bands in the Charlotte areas.

Survivors are his loving mother, Rebecca Tindal Davis of Sumter; his former wife, Billie Bethea of Charlotte; three aunts, Lillie Mae Tindal Lane of Southfield, Mich., Ida Tindal Hunter of Sumter and Marie Tindal Mickens of Paxville; three bothers, Larry Gathers of Dorchester, Miss., and Isaac and Jacob Gathers of Sumter; a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday at Mount Pisgah AME Church, Bartlette Street, Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. Betty Deas Clark, pastor, assisted by the Rev. J.C. Lane, eulogist, and the Rev. Dr. S.R. Miott. Burial followed in the Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia.

Community Funeral Home of Sumter was in charge of arrangements.
