Robert James Geddings, 83, husband of Dorothy Bradford Geddings, died Monday, Aug. 30, 2010, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.
Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Percy and Hattie Mims Geddings. Mr. Geddings was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He retired from Maxwell Brothers Furniture after 41 years of service. Following his retirement, he served as a bailiff in the 3rd Judicial Circuit Court of Sumter County. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 15, a Mason and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Geddings was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed fishing.
Survivors besides his wife include one son, Ronnie (Anne) Geddings of Little Rock, Ark.; one daughter, Connie (Paul) Wright of Sumter; four grandchildren, Ashley Wright, Randy Wright, Tripp Geddings and Corey Geddings; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Thomas (Betty) Geddings and Gene Geddings, both of Sumter; and one sister, Mary Frances (Curtis) Lee of Manning.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Otis Geddings, and one sister, Jackie Geddings.
Graveside services were held on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010, at Evergreen Memorial Park with the Rev. Steve Miller officiating.
Honorary pallbearer was Dr. Philip Brandt.
Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter was in charge of the arrangements.
