Post 68 Juniors win two

The Manning-Santee underclassmen continued their winning ways with a pair of convincing victories at Monarch Field last week.

Manning-Santee Jrs - 11/Lake City Juniors - 5

The Manning-Santee Junior team knocked off Lake City on June 7, at home, 11-5. The visitors actually jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second inning, taking advantage of four walks and two hit batters. Chase Lowder came on in relief and pitched five innings of scoreless baseball.

Manning-Santee methodically climbed back into the contest with a pair of runs in the second and third frames. Justin McCrea contributed an RBI sacrifice fly and Jack Kellahan doubled home a run. Robbie Page lead off the third inning with a two-bagger and, after stealing third, came home on Russell Thompson’s single. Thompson stole second and came home on a throwing error by Lake City’s catcher.

After a scoreless fourth, Post 68 put the game away with a five-spot of its own. Five players contributed base hits in the rally, including singles by McCrea, Kellahan and Tripp Mason. Hunter Robinson added a double while Davis Martin crushed a triple. A couple more runs in the bottom of the sixth accounted for the final score, 11-5.

Manning-Santee Jrs - 11/Sumter Juniors - 5

Post 68’s junior squad took care of the P-15s on June 8, at home, 11-5.

Russell Thompson took the mound for Manning-Santee and held the visitors off the scoreboard until the sixth inning.

By that time, his teammates had staked him to a 6-0 lead. Sumter closed the gap to 6-3 in their half of the sixth inning, but M-S responded with three runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Robbie Healthcott, Martin and Mason each had two hits to pace the hitting attack. The trio also had six RBIs. Thompson struck out nine Sumter batters over seven innings of work.
