Pete Marion Brown, 80, husband of Blanche Kennedy Brown, died Sunday, June 20, 2010, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning. He’s the son of the late William Brown Sr. and Mary Emma Baxter. He was born April 18, 1930, in the Live Oak section of Clarendon County.
He attended the public schools of Clarendon County.
He retired after 30 years with the S.C. Highway Department.
Survivors are his wife, Blanche Kennedy Brown of the home; one son, Elijah Brown of the home; six daughters, Debbie Brown of the home, Patricia (Herbert) Roberts and Glories Witherspoon, both of Manning, and Deloris (Richard) Taylor, Susie (Willie) Mars and Sherglae (Errol) McLean, all of New York; one granddaughter he reared as his own, Shanquan Brown of New York; two sisters, Magaline (Roosevelt) Woods of Kingstree, and Ruth White of Manning; three brothers, William Brown of Manning, and Willie Lee (Christine) Brown and Herbert Lee Brown, both of Pompano Beach, Fla.; 18 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services were held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 6569 Old Georgetown Road, Manning, with the Rev. Dr. Leon Winn, pastor, officiating; and the Rev. Bennie McCants assisting.
Burial was in the churchyard cemetery.
Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning was in charge of arrangements.
