Nettie Davidson Hurt

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Nettie Davidson Hurt, 94, of Lynchburg, Va, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, died May 7, 2010, at Avante’ of Lynchburg surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Walker Joseph Hurt.

Born in Appomattox County, Va, on November 6, 1915, she was the daughter of the late William Thomas and Lou Carter Davidson. She was the last surviving family member of her generation. Mrs. Hurt was a member of Fairview Christian Church and a retired employee of Leggetts Dept. Store. She was a Past Noble Grand of Fairview Rebekah Lodge No. 52, a member of Lynchburg Home Rebekah Lodge No. 41, and a recipient of the Decoration of Chivalry.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Braxton Thomas Davidson and Ollie Jackson Davidson; and sisters, Hester D. Martin, Evelyn D. Martin and Blanche D. Pulliam.

She is survived by two sons, Daniel Joseph (Donna) Hurt of North Myrtle Beach and Arthur William Hurt of Monroe, Va.; three daughters, Roberta H. Tucker of Rustburg, Va., Rebecca H. (Alfred) Coleman of Elon, Va, and VeLinda H. (Dennis) Reynolds of Manning. She is also survived by grandchildren, Steven E. (Debra) Tucker of Lynchburg, Darryl W. (Cheryl) Tucker of Fogelsville, Penn., Michelle H. (Robert) Riggs of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Rebecca H. (Sean) Flynn of Bluffton; by great grandchildren, Joshua Tucker and Christina Tucker of Lynchburg, Angela T. (Jeremy) Franklin of Rustburg; Seneca, Alyssa and Raleigh Tucker of Fogelsville; Zoe and Sophia Riggs of Port Charlotte and Sean Kelly, Evelyn, Veronica and Cooper Flynn of Bluffton; a great-great-grandchild, J. L. Franklin of Rustburg; and 14 nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the nurses, CNAs and staff at Avante’ of Lynchburg for their loving care over the years.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at Robinson Funeral Home in Appomattox, Va., by the Rev. Jack Hamilton and Parish Minister Jean Reynolds.

Burial was in the Old Herman Cemetery in Appomattox County.
