Nelson, Manning mayor four more years

Julia A. Nelson will serve as Manning’s mayor for the next four years and Sherry A. Welle will continue serving the constituents of District 6 for another four-year term.

Residents of Manning had 14 days from Feb. 3 to file to run as a write-in candidate for the mayor’s position and the District 6 seat. No one filed so Nelson and Welle will retain their seats, unopposed.

That’s not the case with Manning’s current council members Clayton Pack and Johnny Gordon.

The Rev. Effie Hilton filed to run against Pack for the District 1 seat, while Carlo Goodine filed to run against Gordon for the District 4 seat.

Voters will go to the polls on April 2 to elect council members from those two districts.

Council members Diane Georgia, Gregory Witherspoon and Ervin Davis are not up for election this year.
