Scott’s Branch High School Senior Jasmine Murray signed to play basketball for Denmark Technical College in Denmark, S.C. in a ceremony held at the high school, April 27.

Murray has received a full scholarship and will be a starting guard for Denmark’s Lady Panthers.

“We’re looking for her to take what she did at Scott’s Branch and to bring it to Denmark Tech,” said Javon Gilliard, Denmark head women’s basketball coach.

Murray has played basketball for Scott’s Branch Lady Eagles since seventh grade, when she first starred for their JV team. She had double digits in every game during the 2011-2012 season for the varsity team, and had three 30-point games in one season.

“Murray’s athleticism on offense and her ability to create a shot will be a great asset to our program,” Gilliard said.

Gilliard said that he can’t wait for her to start in the program. Denmark won their conference championship in the Division I National Junior College Athletic Association last year.

“She’s a great athlete and team leader,” said Scott’s Branch Athletic Director Leonard Johnson. “We’re excited for her.”

A touching part of the ceremony was Johnson’s moment of remembering Scott’s Branch Head Basketball Coach Ruth Coard, who was killed in a car accident earlier this year.

“I know that this would have been a proud moment for her,” Johnson said at the signing.

Murray plans on majoring in either physical therapy or criminal justice.
