Sam Levy/Clarendon Citizen - Manning High School Monarch Daniel Pendergrass rushed for three touchdowns and had 24 carries for 159 yards and three touchdowns during last week's win over Andrews. Manning Varsity Football Coach Robbie Briggs hopes the momentum gained in the win over Andrews carries over into tonight’s game against the Panthers.

One game away from the playoffs, the Monarchs can’t look past the Panthers quite yet.

Lake City, 4-5 on the season and 1-3 in the region, had a good game against Kingstree at home last week beating the Jaguars, 48-0. They look to repeat those winning ways against the Monarchs tonight.

Manning, 5-4 on the season and 2-2 in the region, turned over the ball 19 times in the three games leading up the game last Friday in Andrews. Against the Yellow Jackets, the Monarchs held on to the ball and came away with a much needed win, 37-14.

Manning Varsity Football Coach Robbie Briggs hopes the momentum gained in the win over Andrews carries over into tonight’s game against the Panthers.

“We lost to Bishop England and then we lost to Timberland,” Briggs said. “We followed those losses with the win over Andrews. I’m pleased with the way the boys put those losses behind them and concentrated on Andrews.

“We’ve got some momentum now heading into the playoffs. I hope we can continue that momentum against Lake City.”

Briggs has contended all season that he wants the Monarchs playing their best ball when the playoffs start.

“You always want to play your best ball at the end of the season,” Briggs said. “Our boys were solid in all three phases of the game against Andrews. We hope to continue that against Lake City.”

Kickoff for tonight’s game between Manning and Lake City at Ramsey Stadium is 7:30.
