McFadden makes County Council run

Silver native Robert McFadden has always had a strong desire to serve his community.

“As a child, my dream was to get my education, go to law school and then return to my community and be of service,” McFadden said.

To that end, McFadden has filed to run in the Democratic primary against three-term Councilman Billy Richardson.

McFadden is a 1971 graduate of Scott’s Branch High School where he was secretary of his senior class, a member of the Student Council, was a student bus driver and played football and basketball.

He graduated from S.C. State University in 1975 where he majored in modern languages and minored in political science.

“I have always had a deep love of politics,” he added.

After his undergraduate studies, McFadden earned a Master in Business Leadership degree from Shorter College in Rome Georgia.
McFadden said he sees several things at issue for Clarendon County.

“I am a single parent, raising a 17-year-old son,” he said. “There are no suitable recreational opportunities for him. We need to hone in on job creation. In order to continue to grow this county, we must insure that there are good jobs for our young people or they will surely move away.”

McFadden also has two grown sons and a daughter who is still in school at the University of Delaware.

McFadden has worked with the Frito-Lay Corp. in Dallas, the Ford Motor Company in Dearborn Mich., as well as both the Nissan Motor Corporation of USA and Kia Motor of America. He currently works as a consultant to the automotive industry.

“I have always had an interest in serving my country, as well as my local and state community,” he said. “Moving back to my birthplace has fulfilled a lifelong desire to return since I left for college.”

When candidate filing closed on March 30, there was no Republican opposition. A write-in candidate for that party could be possible in the general election in November.

The countywide Democratic primary will be held on June 8.
The deadline to register to vote in the June primary is May 8.
