Five home runs, a total of 31 runs talloied and a gargantuan number of hits was the story for the Manning-Santee American Legion Post 68 baseball team’s game against Cheraw Tuesday night.
Post 68 won the slugfest 18-13, while hitting two of the five homers on the night.
“It was one of those games where every pitcher we put out there they hit, and every pitcher they put out there we hit,” said Head Coach G.G. Cutter. “It was a long, drawn out game.”
Zane Beasley started on the mound but faltered early and was replaced by Matt Mays, who also had an off night.
Zach Graham came in later and Rashad Murphy pitched the final 1 and 1/3 inning and shut Cheraw down.
Michael Keels led Manning in batting with four hits.
Heath Smith had three hits including a homerun, double and single.
Jack Martin had two his and Douglas Ard hit a two-run homerun.
Manning-Santee was leading by three runs in the ninth inning, Ard hit his two-run shot to give Manning-Santee the five-run advantage.
With the victory, Manning improves to 6-4 overall.
Their next game is tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. when they travel to Sumter to face the P-15s.
