A 32-year-old Manning man has been arrested for the alleged sexual assault of a 17-year-old Manning woman on June 1.
Alonza Eric-Victorlon Gibson Jr. was arrested on June 5 on charges of criminal sexual conduct-first degree, kidnapping, assault and battery-first degree and robbery-common law (without a weapon). Gibson was transported to the Clarendon County Detention Center. Gibson remains in the CCDC after Gibson’s request for bond was denied.
The teenager told officers that she was sitting under a tree near the J.C. Britton Park when a black male, 6-feet, 2-inches tall, wearing long blue shorts, black tennis shoes, black T-shirt and a black du-rag approached her. The teen told authorities that after talking with the man he agreed to buy a pack of cigarettes for her and the two walked to a convenience store at the intersection of Raccoon Road and the Paxville Highway. The teenager told officers that after purchasing the cigarettes the couple walked into Manning to an abandoned house on Collins Street where the man allegedly assaulted the teen. She told officers that when she attempted to scream he covered her mouth.
Gibson was arrested after officers reported seeing the pair walking together on the night of the assault.
Det. Sgt. Carroll Harrington cautioned teenagers about associating with strangers.
“You can never be too careful about the people you associate with,” Harrington said. “Teenagers and individuals who are by themselves need to be careful when talking with strangers. You never know what might happen.”
