Manning loses to Lakewood, Crestwood

Lakewood-55/Manning-50

Manning High boys lost a close one to Lakewood on Dec. 13, 55-50.

Phillip Henry led all Monarch scoring with 13 points, followed by Jerrell Frierson with 12 points, Jamal Keels and Dontravious Witherspoon with eight points each, Jire’ Brunson with four points and Jason Baxter with three points. Breshaun Pendergrass rounded out the scoring with two pints.

The loss drops Manning to 2-4 on the season.

Crestwood-66/Manning-59

Manning’s boys lost a close one to Crestwood on Dec. 14 in Sumter, 66-59.

Manning had three finish the game in double figures.

Senior Jerrell Frierson led all Monarch scorers with 18 points, followed by junior Jamal Keels with 11 points and senior Phillip Henry with 10 points.

Jire’ Brunson scored nine points for Manning. Breshaun Pendergrass had five points, Dontravious Witherspoon had three points, Jason Baxter with two points and Cameron Darley rounded out the scoring with one point.

The loss to Crestwood dropped the Monarchs to 2-5 on the season.

The next games for the Lady Monarchs and Manning boys will be in the Monarch Classic that begins at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 21, at John F. Thames gymnasium at Manning High School.

The Manning boys play their first game at 11:30 a.m. against Marlboro County. The Lady Monarchs hit the hardwood for their first game at 1 p.m. against Lakewood.
