Manning hammers Kingstree

After dropping its first three regular season contests, the Monarchs’ varsity baseball team put one in the win column Friday night as MHS tamed old rival Kingstree 12-2 at the Monarchs’ home field.

Justin Broadway started and picked up the win for his team, surrendering only two runs and two hits.

Manning jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one inning and stretched the advantage to 8-0 before the visitors broke through with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth. The Monarchs put the game away with a four-spot in the bottom of the frame, ending the contest via the 10 run, fifth inning rule.

Senior centerfielder Mike Keels, who was struck on the helmet by the Jaguar pitcher’s first delivery, stayed in the game and collected a pair of base hits and scored three times.

Catcher Justin McArthur also tallied a couple of hits, including the final RBI single in the last of the fifth.

Manning evened its region record at 1-1 and faced Andrews on the road Tuesday night. The Monarchs return home with another region game on Friday when Hanahan pays a visit. First pitches in these contests are set for 6:30.
