Manning traveled to Andrews Friday night and came away with a victory against the number 39 team in the state, 37-14.
Friday night’s win improved the Monarchs’ record to 5-4, 2-2 in the region, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 7-1 on the season, also 2-2 in the region.
“We had a good week of practice getting ready for this game,” Manning football coach Robbie Briggs said following his team’s win Friday night. “We didn’t have any turnovers. We played really solid football in all three phases of the game. We played smart.”
Briggs said his team had 19 turnovers in the three games leading up to Friday night’s win in Andrews.
“It’s impossible to win anytime you have that many turnovers,” he said.
Manning took the game to Andrews, scoring in all four quarters, while holding the Cyclones to seven points in the first quarter and seven points in the final quarter.
Rushing, Manning had 364 yards on 58 carries to Andrews’ 211 yards on 33 carries.
Passing the ball, Manning’s Jamal Keels was 6 for 12 for 107 yards and no interceptions, while Andrews’ quarterback was 3 for 12 for 46 yards with three interceptions.
In total yardage, Manning had the upper hand with 471 yards to Andrews’ 257 yards.
The Monarchs also led the way with total number of plays with 70 to Andrews’ 45.
Manning also had more than twice as many first downs as Andrews, 23-8.
The Monarchs were turnover free Friday night while the Cyclones coughed up the ball four times with one fumble and three interceptions. Manning held onto the ball almost twice as long as Andrews, 31:19 to 16:41.
The Monarchs’ William Dingle and Daniel Pendergrass shared the scoring.
Dingle carried the ball 20 times for 169 yards and three touchdowns, while Pendergrass carried the ball 24 times for 159 yards and three touchdowns.
Manning’s Phillip Henry caught the ball twice for 51 yards.
For the final game of the regular season next Friday night, the Monarchs will face Lake City at Ramsey Stadium. Lake City was 3-5 on the season going into its game against Kingstree on Oct. 21.
“We have a storied rivalry against them,” Briggs said. “They are very similar to us. They replaced a lot of key players this year.”
Briggs said he expects the game against the Panthers to be “a very physical ball game.”
“We want to keep the momentum we’ve established going into the game against them,” Briggs added, “and keep that momentum into the play offs.”
Friday night’s kickoff against Lake City at Ramsey Stadium will be at 7:30.
