Mack Henry Manning, 64, died Saturday, June 26, 2010, at his residence in New York, N.Y.
Born Jan. 3, 1946, in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Mack Arthur and Lillie Mae Manning. Mack Henry Manning, fondly known as “Peter,” was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County. At an early age, he moved to Bronx, N.Y., with his aunt, Mary Lou Manning. He was employed at Carry Case Manufacturers for more than 30 years, until his health failed him.
Peter had a beloved companion, Antoinette “Toni” of New York; and two sisters, Mary Louise and Bertha Manning, who predeceased him.
Those left to cherish his memory are eight sisters, Gervean Manning of Charlotte N.C., Liza Manning, Annie Canty-Stargill and Ruby (Gregory) Benbow, all of New York, Georgia (Willie) Singletary, Betty (Wayne) Grady of New Jersey, Corine (James) Billups and Ocie (John Simmons) Huggins, both of Summerton; a brother, Willie (Rose) Manning of Thomasville, N.C.; four aunts, Mary Logan and Mary R. Jackson, both of Summerton, Hattie Mae Servance of Jacksonville, Fla., and Gloria Riley of Wilmington, N.C.; two uncles, Acie (Lottie) Riley of Jacksonville and Willie Thomas Black of Summerton; three godchildren, Peaches, Nikki and Bobby, all of New York; 16 nieces; 14 nephews; 21 great-nieces; 21 great-nephews; 10 great-great-nieces and nephews; one great-great-great-nephew; a beloved niece who was always there for him, Rosalind Huggins of Summerton; a best friend, Izell Owens of New York; a dedicated caregiver, Francis Marie Perry of New York; and host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Mannng were held at 3 p.m. Friday at Taw Caw Missionary Baptist Church. Services were officiated by the Rev. Dr. W.T. Johnson, pastor. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Summerton Funeral Service, Summerton, was in charge of arrangements.
