Lurena W. McDaniel

Lurena Williams McDaniel, widow of Ronald McDaniel, was born June 30, 1955, in Clarendon County, a daughter of Rosa Mae Magazine and the late Elder Josephus Washington and stepdaughter of the late David Magazine. She departed this life on Friday, Aug. 27, 2010, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. McDaniel received certificates in home health care from Sumter Area Technical College, an associate degree in marketing and business management and a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration. She was a member of the Eastern Star and many other organizations. She was employed by Lee County Correctional for 13 years and was highly respected by her co-workers. She was also employed by Piggly Wiggly. She was a member of Second Presbyterian Church USA, where she served on the usher board and as a member of the choir.

Fond and loving memories will be cherished by her loving sisters, Willie Mae (Lawrence) Stuckey of Bishopville and Sarah (Calvin) Toney; two brothers, Rickey (Veola) Magazine and Hezekiah (Fannie) Washington of Albany, N.Y.; two uncles, Johnnie L. Williams and Clinton Williams, both of Sumter; three aunts, Shirley A. Williams, Carolyn H. Williams and Rosa L. Anthony, all of Sumter; a brother-in-law, Louis McDaniel; sisters-in-law, Flossie M. Taylor, Lillie M. Turner, Veronica Magazine and Marie McDaniel; one adopted sister, Ella (Jeremiah) Temoney; a goddaughter, Kimikia Bradley; a godson, Myshaun Hudson; two special nieces, Cynthia Lighty (Earl) and Benita Stuckey; two special nephews, Minister Rickey Stuckey (Yvonne) and Lawrence Stuckey III (Natasha); and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Zola Anne Williams.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Second Presbyterian Church (USA) with the pastor, the Rev. Gloria J. Williams officiating, assisted by the Rev. Calvin Washington, the Rev. Dr. Robert Bligen and Minister Rickey Stuckey.

Interment will follow in Hillside Memorial Park.

Mrs. McDaniel will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. for viewing until the hour of service.

Job’s Mortuary of Sumter was in charge of the arrangements.
