The Lady ‘Cats sandwiched in a win between a pair of losses on the week.
Lady Raiders - 47/Lady Swampcats - 37
Laurence Manning’s varsity girls lost to Holly Hill on Jan. 31, 47-37.
“The first half was very good for us,” said LMA Girls Varsity Head Coach Mike Lowder. “They outscored us 21-9 in the third quarter. The halves were like two different games.”
The first quarter ended with the Lady ‘Cats on top, 12-9. They stretched the led to 22-15 at the end of the first half. The second half was all Lady Raiders. They led the Lady Swampcats by five in the third quarter and put the game away in the fourth period.
Dixie Richburg led all LMA scorers with 13 points. Grace Beatson followed with nine points. Emily McElveen had six points. Julia Coward and Perrin Jackson scored four points each and Haley Patrick rounded out the scoring with one point.
Lady Swampcats - 58/Lady War Hawks - 56
Laurence Manning’s Lady Swampcats won a close game at the buzzer against Colleton Prep’s Lady War Hawks on Feb. 1, 58-56.
Julia Coward scored the winning basket with 1.6 seconds left in the game.
The Lady Swampcats’ Head Coach Mike Lowder called a time out prior to the winning shot.
“It was a play designed for her,” Lowder said. “It was designed for a different location. She dribbled around and scored on a short baseline jumper.”
The Lady ‘Cats led strong for the first three periods and almost gave the game back to the Lady War Hawks in the final period when the Lady War Hawks outscored them 18-9.
“Sarah McDonald for Colleton Prep scored 12 points in the fourth period,” Lowder said. “She scored more by herself than we did.”
Emily McElveen was the leading scorer for the Lady Swampcats with 20 points. Julia Coward scored 14 points, including the game winning shot. Grace Beatson scored 12 points. Dixie Richburg added eight points, Perrin Jackson dropped in four points and Emily Atkinson finished with one point.
Lady Indians - 53/Lady Swampcats - 50
Laurence Manning’s Lady Swampcats lost a close game to Orangeburg Prep on Feb. 3, 53-50.
“It was a really good game,” said Lady Swampcats’ Coach Mike Lowder. “We finished really well with our leading rebounder and top two scorers fouling out with three minutes left in the game.”
LMA finished the first quarter on top by two points and led at the half by one point. The Lady Indians led by five at the end of the third quarter. The Lady ‘Cats made a run late but came up short.
Dixie Richburg led LMA scorers with 18 points. Perrin Jackson finished with a double-double, 11 points and 10 rebounds. Julia Coward scored seven points, but had a strong game on the boards with 12 rebounds. Grace Beatson dropped in seven points. Emily McElveen added six points and Alaina Belser finished with one point.
The loss dropped the Lady Swampcats to 15-9 on the season and 2-4 in region play.
