Lady Swampcats - 40/Lady Cavaliers - 33
The Lady Swampcats won a region game against the Cavaliers on Jan. 17 at home, 40-33.
“The game wasn’t as close as the score implies,” said Head Varsity Girls Coach Mike Lowder. “This was a good win for us with some great ball handling on the floor.”
Laurence Manning was up 29-18 over Robert E. Lee at the beginning of the fourth quarter.
“They had a girl, Baily Watts who hit three three-pointers in the fourth quarter,” Lowder added, “and that was late in the game.”
Grace Beatson and Dixie Richburg scored 13 points each. Emily McElveen, Perrin Jackson and Anna Lowder added four points each. Julia Coward had just two points, but she pulled in 16 rebounds.
“Julia had a really good game,” Lowder said. “She only had the two points but she averages about 11 points a game.”
The win moved the Lady Cats to 13-5 on the season, 2-1 in conference play.
LMA J.V. Girls - 33/O’burg Prep J.V. Girls - 11
The J.V. Lady ‘Cats clobbered the J.V. Lady Indians on Jan. 18 at home, 33-11.
The Lady ‘Cats led from the beginning with a lead at halftime of 17-5.
Lead scorer for the J.V. Lady ‘Cats was Courtney Beatson with 11 points followed by Cora Downer with eight points, Taylor Coursey and Taylor Lee with four points each and Brook Ward, Julie Morris and Olivia Wilson rounding out the scoring with two points each.
LMA J.V. Boys - 37/O’burg Prep J.V. Boys - 15
LMA’s J.V. Boys soundly defeated OP’s J.V. Boys, Jan. 18 at home, 37-15.
The J.V. Swampcats pounced on the J.V. Indians from the buzzer leading at halftime, 15-8.
Leading scorer for the J.V. Swampcats was Dusty Duke with seven points followed by Robbie Page with six points, Hunter Robinson and Buddy Bleasdale with five points each, Burke Mishoe with four points, Chase Rogers with three points, J.P. Rowland, Mark Dinkins and William Ard with three points each and rounding out the scoring was Olin Robinson with one point.
