The Porter Gaud Cyclones improved their record to 6-3 on the season with a 28-7 win over the Laurence Manning Academy Swampcats in Manning Friday night. The Swampcats fell to 5-5 on the season.
Turnovers were the name of the game in Laurence Manning’s loss to Porter Gaud Friday night.
“We had five turnovers,” LMA football coach Ken Kellahan said after the game. “You can’t have that many turnovers against a team the caliber of Porter Gaud and expect to win the game.”
Kellahan said the Swampcats moved the ball well but the game’s momentum and breaks never seems to go their way.
“It was 13-7 in the fourth quarter,” Kellahan said. “We were moving the ball, but we couldn’t get a break and they ended up scoring twice late in the game to put it away.”
Kellahan said LMA’s one score came on a rushing play with Will McNair taking the ball into the end zone.
Next week, the ‘Cats will travel to Sumter to take on a power house, the Wilson Hall Barons, who were 9-0 heading into the Oct. 21 game. The Barons are ranked 19th in the state.
“They are a powerful team,” Kellahan said. “We’re going to have to work hard this week getting ready for them.”
The kickoff Friday night between LMA and Wilson Hall is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
