GREENVILLE, N.C. – Leo Melle Plowden “Punkie” Pennell Jr., 87, widow of Marcus McKinnon, died Friday, March 26, 2010, at Cypress Glen Retirement Center in Greenville.
A longtime resident of Gray Court, S.C., and Greenville, she was a former member of the Ora Associated Reformed Presbyterian Church and a member of the Greenville (SC) Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.
Born in Summerton, she was the youngest of six children born to Leonora Nelson and Alfred Judson Plowden Sr. She attended the University of South Carolina and graduated from Erskine College. After teaching for two years, she attended nursing school at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, N.C., and after graduating, she spent many years as a nurse and nurse director.
She was preceded in death by her husband and daughter, Jamie.
She is survived by three children and their spouses, Leonora Nelson “Penny” (Chuck) Lockhart of Chicago, Ill., Georganne Pettaway (Derek) Perry of Greenville, N.C., and Marcus McKinnon (Leslie) Pennell III of Cincinnati, Ohio; and six grandchildren, Cameron, Rebecca and Hannah Perry and Anne Warner, Mary Kate and McKinnon Pennell.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 29, 2010, at Ora Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, in Gray Court.
Burial followed in the church cemetery.
