Sharron Haley/Clarendon Citizen - Lady Monarchs are the champions of the 2011 Monarch Classic with a win over Lakewood Thursday night at John F. Thames gymnasium, 60-45.
The Lady Monarchs took advantage of facing the Lady Gators for the second time in the Monarch Classic by trouncing the Sumter team, 60-45, in Thursday night’s championship game.
Lady Monarch Alexia Abraham, was named Most Valuable Player.
“They played excellent defense,” Coach John F. Thames said after the game. “Their offense was really good also.”
Thames said his team took advantage of the Lady Gators’ foul trouble.
“We were lucky that several of their key players fouled out,” he said. “We took advantage of their foul trouble, but our girls fought hard.”
The Lady Monarchs are 3-1 against the Lady Gators this season.
