The Lady Monarchs defeated the Lady Gators on Dec. 13 in Sumter, 54-39.
The win tied Lady Monarch Coach John F. Thames for the winningest active women’s basketball coach in South Carolina history.
The Lady Monarchs had three players in double figures: Karen White with 19 points, seven rebounds and three steals, Shanequa Muldrow with 11 points and three steals and Alexia Abraham with 10 points and five rebounds.
Breanna Nelson had four blocked shots along with eight points, six rebounds and two assists. Lanisha Brown scored three points with four assists and two blocked shots. Imani Bell contributed two points while Makeba Harvin scored one point and had four rebounds.
The win puts the Lady Monarchs at 5-1 on the season.
Lady Knights-53/Lady Monarchs-43
The Lady Monarchs lost a heartbreaker to the Lady Knights on Dec. 14 in Sumter, 53-43.
Free throws would not fall for the Lady Monarchs. They were 7-17 from the line.
Karen White led all Lady Monarchs in scoring with 15 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Shanequa Muldrow had 14 points and three steals. Alexia Abraham had eight points, two steals and two assists. Lanisha Brown scored four points, seven rebounds and two steals. Monica Nelson followed with two points, four rebounds and two steals.
“I’m really proud of the way we played tonight,” said Lady Monarch Coach John F. Thames. “We missed a few screens and that’s something we’ll be working on in practice.”
Thames called the Lady Knights “an excellent team.”
“I’m happy to leave here only losing by ten,” Thames said.
The loss drops the Lady Monarchs to 5-2 on the season.
