Lady Cats suffer through tough Myrtle Beach week

In Clarendon County softball action last week, the Laurence Manning Academy Lady Swampcats took part in the Grand Strand Softball Classic tournament at Myrtle Beach going 1-4.

On April 18, Lady Cats lost 4-3 to South Charleston, West Va., on April 19, lost to Borgman, Ohio 9-2, on Wednesday, April 20, and fell to Wall from Jersey Shore, N.J.

The Lady Swampcats got their only win of the week on April 21 with a 4-3 decision over Greenbrier, Va.

They lost their final game of the week by an 8-1 margin against St. James.

Their overall record is now 10-11.

The Lady Swampcats will play Robert E. Lee Friday night for senior night.

Baseball

In Clarendon County baseball action last week, the Manning High Monarchs played a double-header against Marlboro County on April 18.

The Monarchs won the first game 8-5 but fell to the Bulldogs 12-2 in the second game.

The LMA Swampcats took part in the Mingo Bay Classic tournament April 18-21.

On April 18, the Cats defeated Andrews 8-3, and on April 19, they fell to Georgetown, 7-6 in 10 innings.

They played George Washington on April 20 and lost 7-6 and were downed by Greenbriar on April 21, 10-0.

The Swampcats will play today at Heathwood Hall at 7 p.m.
