John Allen McCray died on Saturday, April 24, 2010, at his residence in Manning.
Born Sept. 6, 1956, in Clarendon County, he was a son of Deacon Lee Ernest Sr. and Luella Hilton McCray and widower of Roberta Stukes McCray. His education was obtained in the public schools of Clarendon County and he was a graduate of Limestone College. John was employed with Wateree Community Actions Inc. for more than 25 years. He served his country as a member of the U.S. Army and received an honorable discharge. He was a member of Church of God By Faith in Davis Station and served in numerous capacities.
He is survived by his parents, Deacon Lee Ernest Sr. and Luella Hilton McCray of Manning; children, Christopher E. McCray of Atlanta, Ga., Rodrigues J. McCray of Manning and Jennifer McCray of Killeen, Texas; foster son, Marquez Griffin of Cheraw; brother, Stanley McCray of Atlanta; four sisters, Lubertha (Mark) Williams and Catherine (Stephon) Blocker, both of Irmo, and Burnette (Johnnie) McFadden and Sharon (Toni) Mellette, both of Manning; adopted sister, Carrie (James) Doughty of Summerton; two granddaughters, Ty’mya and Ty’ara of Killeen; sisters-in-law, Mamie Stukes of Atlanta and Theresa McCray of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; brothers-in-law, Robert Stukes, Haywood (Claudia) Stukes and Carl Stukes, all of Greensboro, N.C., and Michael Stukes of Fort Lauderdale; and mother-in-law, Mary Ann Stukes of Fort Lauderdale.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby McCray and Lee Ernest McCray Jr.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 1, 2010, at Church of God By Faith in Sumter, with Bishop Stephon Blocker, eulogist, assisted by Elder Thomas Davis, Elder Mack S. Wilson, Elder Andre McBride, Elder James Lucas and Minister Toni Mellette.
Interment followed in the Church of God By Faith cemetery in Davis Station.
Fleming-DeLaine Funeral Home and Chapel of Manning was in charge of the arrangements.
