John “Durant” McKenzie, age 80, passed away Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012, at his residence after an illness.
Born March 7, 1932, in Clarendon County he was a son of the late Wiley and Lottie Beard McKenzie. He provided for his family by the sweat of his brow, farming the old-fashioned way. He attended Barrineau Pentecostal Holiness Church.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lawana Daniels McKenzie; daughter, Cynthia Lee (Gerald) of Florence; sons, Glen McKenzie (Jeneen), Shay McKenzie, both of Barrineau and Rance McKenzie of Camp Branch; sisters, Juanita Barrineau, Vera Coker, Letha Coker, Christine Spring, and Marie Eaddy all of Lake City; brother, Doug McKenzie (Elise) of Lake City; grandchildren, Michael Lee (Gina), Ashlee Anderson, Kristin Greene (Jason), Brooke Mixon, Drew McKenzie, Hunter Mims, and Cullen McKenzie; seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012, at Barrineau Pentecostal Holiness Church, with burial in the church cemetery, directed by Floyd Funeral Home of Olanta. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012, at Barrineau Pentecostal Holiness Church.
