James Bowman, 83, husband of Susie Mae Dingle Bowman, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Elijah and Jacqueline Sims-Bowman. He was born Nov. 5, 1928, in Summerton, a son of the late Arthur and Corine McCray Bowman. He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
He accepted Christ at an early age and joined New Bethel Holiness Church and later moved his membership to Fourth Crossroad Baptist Church.
He received his formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County. He was employed by Tomlinson Drug Store, McDonalds and Hardees for many years. He was known for playing his guitar for various groups in the community.
Survivors are his wife, Susie Mae Bowman; five sons, Elijah (Jackie) Bowman, James Edward Bowman, Willis Bowman, Wayne Bowman and Adrian Bowman; one daughter, Joan Bowman; two sisters, Betty Ann Jordan and Luetisha (James) Goins; one brother, Ernest (Lillie) Bowman; one step-brother, Johnny (Evelyn) McGett; one sister-in-law, three brothers-in-law; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
The celebratory services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, at the Fourth Crossroad Baptist Church, Manning with Pastor G.K. Carter officiating, Pastor Reather Bennett, assisting. Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery. Mr. Bowman will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral time.
The family is receiving friends at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Elijah and Jackie Bowman, 30 Lakeside Dr., Sumter.
