Henry B. Starks Sr.

Henry B. Starks Sr., 77, husband of Essie Mae Wright Starks, died Saturday, July 3, 2010, at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, Manning.

Born April 15, 1933, in Manning, he was a son of the late Frances and Lila Hilton Starks. He received his formal education in the public schools of Clarendon County. In his life, he sought the need for a personal Savior and joined Mt. Roney Baptist Church and later he affiliated himself with Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. He was a contractor for New Hanover Memorial Hospital, Wilmington, N.C.

Survivors are his wife, Essie Mae Wright Starks of the home; four daughters, Shirley Thomas of Wilmington, Lila (Richmond) McDuffie, Cynthia McQueen and Delphine Starks, all of Manning; three sons, Frankie (Adell) Starks, Ervin (Julia) Starks and Johnny (Charmaine) Starks, all of Wilmington; five sisters, Mildred Ferguson, Audrey Richardson, Willivee Ruose, Margie Tindal and Loretta Starks; three grandchildren reared in the home, Jeremiah Starks, Trent McQueen Jr. and Justus McQueen; and 18 additional grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 10, 2010, at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in Manning, with the Rev. George P. Windley, pastor, officiating, assisting Minister Richmond McDuffie.

Burial was in Union Cypress AME Church cemetery in Manning.
