Hazel Ethridge Boyce

Hazel Ethridge “Uncle Hazel” Boyce, 90, widower of Emma Marshall “Aunt Pete” Boyce, died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, at his home in Manning.

Born Sept. 9, 1921, in Sumter, he was the son of the late James Walter Boyce and the late Mary Baker Boyce. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII,  having achieved the rank of Sergeant Major, a retired bridge engineer with the S.C. Department of Transportation and a member of Second Baptist Church of Manning.

He is survived by three daughters, Linda Griffin (Jim) of Florence, Nancy Elliott of Manning and Ann Hutto (David) of Orangeburg; a son, Bryant Boyce of Manning; a sister, Esther Powell of Sumter; nine grandchildren, Tripp Griffin, Rob Elliott, Greg Elliott, Suzann Weathers, Ashley Wolfe, David Hutto Jr., Ansley Boyce, Blake Boyce and Hillary Burns Boyce; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, in the chapel of Stephens Funeral Home with Rev. Ervin Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Clarendon Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, at Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the residence, 645 Woodside Dr., Manning.
